Private vs. Corporate Ownership
Did you know that your community is privately owned? You might not have had reason to know that and even less reason to think about how important this it to you personally. But, make no mistake, this is one of the reasons that Johanna Woods residents don’t live in a “trailer park”. Most of the mobile home parks in Tulsa and surrounding cities are owned by large business conglomerates who own multiple parks. That’s their “business” and it’s that business mentality that shows in areas that we take for granted. Their streets are private, ours are public. What’s the big difference? Plenty! When it comes to maintenance, our streets are repaired by the city. Their streets are repaired – or not – whenever the business owners decide they can afford to do it. And in slow economic times, big ticket items like street repair have to wait. Many of the trailer parks in the surrounding areas have streets that are in serious need of repair. Additionally, because their streets are private, it is up to management to try and enforce speed limits and correct the parking and other violations. In Johanna Woods, our streets are public streets, so the city monitored our traffic patterns and installed speed humps on Johanna Blvd. They also patrol our community because we are part of the city. The fact of private ownership does not make our community perfect, but it certainly gives us an advantage. There are some issues that we don’t have to deal with, so we can spend our time and resources in other areas. Like making sure we are not a trailer park … just the best of manufactured housing communities. And we are glad that chose to live here!

A Word About Lawn Care…
We appreciate neatly mowed and trimmed yards so much in Johanna Woods! But, be sure when you mow that you don’t leave the street around your home full of grass. A lawn that is freshly mowed is greatly enhanced when the evidence of that mowing is not left in the street! If your mower doesn’t bag the grass clippings, please mow so that the clippings are thrown back in the yard–not the street

The Labor Day Celebration!
Labor Day is the day that has been set aside annually in this country, to honor working people. The folks who get out of bed each day and make our country “work” by going to work! The first informal Labor Day event was a march down the streets of New York in 1872. Then, many years later, in 1894, President Grover Cleveland established the first Monday in September as a national holiday, for the purpose of honoring working Americans. So for this one day … take a break, kick back, get out there and enjoy the fruits of your hard work and labor. But then, get back to work on Tuesday–our city, state and national economy is counting on you to do your part.

Keep Those Trashcans In Their Place!
Trash days are Mondays and Thursdays in Johanna Woods. Please DO NOT set trash out the night before. We are so close to the woods, that chances are good that the contents of the trash bag will be spread all over your lawn by morning if you do! There are just too many hungry critters looking for a quick snack. AND, be sure to move your trash cans away from the curb once the trash has been collected. These small things add a lot to the overall appearance of our community!

Thank your for your help with this!
