November 2014 Newsletter

Voting, A Privilege and Responsibility…
As soon as you receive this newsletter it will be time for our national elections.  Each  election becomes more and more important, as our nation faces greater and more dangerous challenges.  Sadly, many of the principles America was founded on seem to be considered irrelevant by the politicians of both major parties. Judges now make laws rather than determining right and wrong based on our Constitution and American government has reached into areas of our everyday lives in ways that were never intended by our founders.  If you are pleased or displeased with what is going on in America, this is your opportunity to make your voice heard.  The great privilege of being an American brings with it the great responsibility to be involved in the election process.   Democrat, Republican or Independent…Vote, November 4th!

Happy Thanksgiving
There is a magnificent transformation going on all around us!  The earth is putting off its summer attire and settling in for winter, giving us a beautiful show of fall color as it does.  This means it’s almost Thanksgiving!  Have you stopped to realize how blessed you are lately?  Sure, there are dangers and threats in our world and personal issues we all deal with, but set those things aside for a moment and reflect on all you have to be thankful for!  Think about the many comforts we enjoy everyday, and that we take for granted.  As Thanksgiving nears, spend some time counting your blessings, you might be busy for a long time 🙂

Veteran’s Day
Our freedom as Americans was purchased by the blood and toil of many who came before us.  It is preserved by those who continue to defend us.   Along with Thanksgiving, we pay tribute in November to all who have served, and those who still serve, our country.   It is an incredible sacrifice to leave the comforts of home for the uncertainty of war and many who did so never returned.  Thanks to all in our community who have served, or are serving, our country.  You have made possible for each of us, the continued blessings of liberty, freedom and peace.

For Johanna Woods Only!
It has become tradition in Johanna Woods to have a drawing to provide a Thanksgiving turkey (ham, chicken – whatever!) for a few of our resident’s  Thanksgiving feasts.  This year we will be giving away 5, $25.00 Wal-Mart gift certificates during November.  Your on-time rental payment is your entry into the drawing.  That’s it, nothing more to do and it’s just for you, because you live in Johanna Woods!

Our American Heritage…An Attitude of Gratitude
“We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth, and power as no other nation has ever grown.”
Abraham Lincoln
“Let us remember that, as much has been given us, much will be expected from us, and that true homage comes from the heart as well as from the lips, and shows itself in deeds.”
Theodore Roosevelt
“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”
John F. Kennedy
“The Pilgrims made seven times more graves than huts.  No Americans have been more impoverished than these who, nevertheless, set a aside a day of thanksgiving.”
H.U. Westermayer
“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.  For the LORD is good…”  Psalm 100:4, 5a
