Happy Birthday U.S.A!
It’s Independence Day! 239 years ago the United States declared our independence from British rule and became a sovereign nation.  And in the course of our nation’s relatively short history, America has become the most blessed and prosperous nation in the world.  The blessings of liberty that we enjoy today were costly to those who came before us.  Those blessings should never be  taken for granted, but too often they are.  Most of us have never known anything but freedom and it’s good for us to stop and remember our beginnings as a nation.  Men of great character were willing to risk everything they had in order to “insure the blessings of liberty” to themselves and their “posterity”.  We have a great heritage as a nation.  But, unless we make a conscious effort to pass that history on to our kids, they will think the 4th of July is just about fireworks, picnics and time off from work.   We all look forward to those things, but let’s not forget why we have the freedom to celebrate and enjoy them in the first place.  We are Americans, and we have a great heritage.  Pass it on! Happy July 4th!

Legally Enjoying Fireworks in Johanna Woods
Again this year, fireworks may be set off in the city limits of Broken Arrow WITH A PERMIT. We are in the city limits, so you must have a permit if you plan to shoot fireworks here. Please be aware that there are permit restrictions you need to know, and discharging fireworks in violation of these restrictions could result in a fine of $225.00 to $450.00, EVEN WITH A PERMIT.  Be sure that you read and understand all the fine print so you don’t get into trouble.  One of the most important rules is that fireworks must be lit on a non-combustible surface, but not within 25 feet of a permanent structure.  Be very careful with fireworks and keep the safety of your home and your neighbors’ as your first priority.  Yard signs will be issued with each permit and must be displayed while shooting fireworks.  Fireworks can only be discharged between 3:00 and 11:00 pm on the 3rd and 4th of July. Permits cost $20.00 and are available at the One Stop Center, City Hall or online at: www.brokenarrowok.gov/fireworks.  Be safe and clean up all the trash when you are done!

Neighbor News
Congratulations to Robbie Collins!  He will be keeping his July rent in his pocket as a result of a resident referral!  Way to go Robbie!  If  you have a friend or relative who is looking to relocate, why not tell them about Johanna Woods?  If they buy a home here or bring a home in, we will say “thank you” to you with a free months rent.  It’s a great deal!

Our American Heritage
“A general dissolution of the principles and manners will more surely overthrow the liberties of America than the whole force of the common enemy.  While the people are virtuous they cannot be subdued; but when once they lose their virtue they will be ready to surrender their liberties to the first external or internal invader.”  Samuel Adams
“Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclination, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.”  John Adams
“The propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right, which Heaven itself has ordained.”  George Washington

Re-Inspections Finally in Progress
All of the preliminary home inspections were completed in April and re-inspections are underway.  However, between the rainy season that has lingered and lingered, we are a little behind.  Since it’s been so rainy, being behind might not be a bad thing for those with repairs that are yet to be made.  Most homes required little more than routine repairs, so most time frames to complete the needed tasks were 30 to 90 days.  Hopefully, most of the work is already in progress.  We truly appreciate how nicely most of our residents maintain their homes and home sites.  All of us benefit in one way or another from having a clean, well maintained community, with properly maintained homes in it.  You can check re-sale values in any area and you will find them to be the highest in good communities like Johanna Woods.  And that’s because of you, our fine residents!  We appreciate you all.   We will be working to finish the re-inspections over the next few weeks.

Cook’s Corner
Joosie Loosie Burgers

Ingredients:                                       Yield: 4 Burgers
1.5 lbs ground beef
3-4 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
American cheese, cut into little squares
Hamburger buns
Your favorite hamburger toppings
Combine the beef, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt and pepper in a bowl.  Separate the meat into 8 equal parts and flatten out into thin patties.  Place some cheese on top of 4 patties, then cover with the other patties.  Press the edges together to form a tight seal.  Grill or cook in a pan for a few minutes on each side, as you would any burger.  Use your best judgment on done-ness and don’t cut into the burger too much, or the cheese will ooze out.  Serve on hamburger buns with your favorite toppings.
