Johanna Woods Office Expansion
You have probably noticed all of the construction activity going on around the community office.  We are in the process of adding additional office space as a result of the corporate decision to move the home office out of state.  Johanna Woods is a privately owned business and part of a group of companies owned by a family LLC.  The owners have moved out of Tulsa and with the retirement of longtime bookkeeper, Rita Yaunt, the decision was made to consolidate the two offices.  Adding floor space and bringing our other bookkeeper, Shara Heimbach, out to Johanna Woods was the most sensible and cost effective way to accomplish this.  So, that is what we are doing!  Nothing about the daily operation or ownership of Johanna Woods will change at all, except that internally we will see a few more efficiencies by having the bookkeeping function here with us. Shara may occasionally answer the phone or watch the office when we need to be out on the property, but major business decisions will continue to be made by our owners.  Please bear with us as we make this transition, build the office and get Shara settled in out here.  Until the new office area is complete we will not be able to offer the clubroom to our residents for their private functions, but hopefully things will be wrapped up and back to “normal” by the end of September.  We will appreciate your patience as we work to get this done!

The Labor Day Holiday
Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894.  While it was originally instituted to celebrate the contributions of working Americans, Labor Day has come to also represent the symbolic end of Summer.  We in Oklahoma, certainly hope that is true and we welcome the arrival of cooler weather.  As much as we all enjoy the time off from work, most of us realize that it is “work” that enables us to enjoy the comforts that we have in this life.  Work is also the engine that drives our economy and every person’s contribution to the economy is important, no matter what honest profession they are employed in.  So…enjoy the long weekend.  You earned it by working hard all year.  Then get back to work on Tuesday and start over!  Have a safe and pleasant holiday.

Neighbor News
We don’t have specific neighbor news to share this month, but we have A LOT of new neighbors in our community, due to quite a few home changes recently.  One of the best security measures you will ever employ to keep your home and community safe is to get to know your neighbors!  Please take time to meet these new folks and welcome them.

“Laws are made for men of ordinary understanding and should, therefore, be construed by the ordinary rules of common sense. Their meaning is not to be sought for in metaphysical subtleties which may make anything mean everything or nothing at pleasure.”
“In questions of power then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.”
“The principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale.”
Thomas Jefferson
“A nation of well informed men who have been taught to know and prize the rights which God has given them cannot be enslaved. It is in the region of ignorance that tyranny begins.”
Benjamin Franklin
“The question before the human race is, whether the God of nature shall govern the world by his own laws, or whether priests and kings shall rule it by fictitious miracles.”

Cook’s Corner
Sticky Fingers and Sauce
1/3 C Frank’s Hot Sauce 1 1/2 C Brown Sugar
1Tbsp. Water
Sticky Fingers
1 Cup oil
1 pkg. frozen breaded chicken tenders
Heat the hot sauce, brown sugar and water in a saucepot until the sugar has completely dissolved.  Remove from heat and cool to room temperature before adding to wings.  You can also make this ahead of time and refrigerate, but the wings turn out best if you don’t pour warm sauce over them.  For the chicken, heat the oil in a frying pan and cook the tenders until they are crispy and warm.  Dip each piece of chicken in the sauce so it is completely covered and place on a serving plate.  Pour any remaining sauce over the chicken and serve with ranch dressing.

Return Your Pool Passes and You Could Win $25.00!
If you know where your pool passes are, we need for you to turn them back into the community office, right after the pool closes.  Every year we issue a unique pass so that our monitors can more easily regulate access to our pool.  It can be expensive to do this if we have to buy all new tags and bands each season.  We will be having a drawing for $25.00 on the 25th of September and your entry for this drawing will be your returned pool pass.  If you put them in the rent box, please use an envelope to keep them together and put your name on the outside.  We will also have a box at the pool over the holiday weekend so you can drop then in after your last swim.  If you did not check out passes, you can still enter.  Just turn in a piece of paper with your name on it for each family member.  Sixty days after the pool closes a charge of $1.00 will be added to your account for any unreturned or damaged passes.  Cool cash, nice 🙂

Inspections Need to be Wrapping Up!
What a wild and crazy weather year it has been for us.  And in Oklahoma we are supposed to be used to unpredictable weather!  Extra time has been given for most inspection chores to be completed, taking into consideration the record wet months we have had this year.  Many of you have completed all your chores or are close, and we appreciate your hard work.  If you haven’t started yet, you are behind and need to get busy.  With the unusual weather we have had so far this year, don’t put your inspection work off counting on having a mild or dry fall to finish up in.  You just never know what the seasons will bring ‘til they arrive!

Keep Trash and Trashcans In Their Place!
Trash days are Mondays and Thursdays in Johanna Woods.  Please DO NOT set trash out any earlier than 5:00 pm the day before.  This is a city code requirement, but also a practical one.  We are surrounded by woods full of hungry critters looking for a quick snack.  Chances are good that the contents of your trash bag will be all over your lawn or the street by morning if you set them out too early.  City Code also requires that trash cans be moved away from the curb within 24 hours of trash collection.  Trash cans at curbs all along the streets of Johanna Woods do not enhance the appearance of our community!  Thanks for your help with this!
