Our Community is Growing!
Spring is in the air!  Hopefully, it’s here to stay now and not just teasing us again.  The trees are budding and hopefully things will start looking green again very soon.  It has been an up and down winter, but Spring always brings a lift to the heart and mood as flowers bloom and life is renewed all around us.  The last few weeks have been busy with people moving into our community, too.  We have seen quite a few homes change hands and some new homes move into the community.  Welcome to all of our new neighbors!  Please be sure and take the time to introduce yourself to the new folks who may be living next door to you or just down the street.  If you don’t have new neighbors yet, keep watching, they are turning up on different streets all around the community.  One of the best ways to provide security to our individual homes and our neighborhood is to know our neighbors and to look out for each other.  This is the easiest and most inexpensive way to maintain the safety of our community.  And we can all do it!  It just takes a little time and effort.  Please take the time to be friendly and welcoming.  Cookies are optional.

Strong Winds and Home Inspections
Oklahoma is a windy place a lot of the time, but especially in the Spring.  With stronger than normal winds and spring inspections underway, it’s a good time to make sure your home is ready for both.  Here are a few things you might want to check on:  1) Are your shutters securely fastened to your home?  2) Are your trash cans stored in such a way that they will not wind up across the street when the wind blows?  3) Are there loose items around the outside of your home that could blow away?  If so, you need to secure them, store them or simply get rid of them.  Finally, be sure that all trash that is set out is placed in bags that are securely tied.  Taking a look around and tidying up the outside of your home helps keep our community looking good as well!

Congratulations to Bill and Daphne MacArthur!  They won the drawing in February and are going to the Olive Garden on us!

Phyllis Perry won the drawing for March and received a $25.00 Lowe’s Gift Card!  Thanks for paying your rent on time.  We appreciate you all!!!

Longer Days-More Time to Play!
As daylight hours lengthen we see increased outdoor activity all around the community.  This is a normal and good thing—and we want it to stay that way!  This is the time of year when we ask all of our parents to remind their children of where they can and cannot play.  The yards and driveways of their neighbors ARE NOT acceptable play places.  Nor is it okay to trespass through a neighbor’s yard to reach the park or a friend’s house a little more quickly.  A playground is provided that has a lot of room to spread out and engage in a lot of activities.  As far as, walking, riding bikes and scooters in the streets, please remind your kids to do so very carefully, paying attention to the movement of traffic around them.  Cars and trucks have the right of way and children need to be alert and move out of the street immediately to yield to oncoming traffic.  Johanna Woods is an all age community and we want everyone to live and interact together in a peaceful and friendly manner.  Being courteous and respectful of other people’s property and rights will go a long way toward making that happen!

Cook’s Corner
Creamy Chicken Bake
2 1/2 to 3 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts
1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup
1 can Cream of Chicken Soup
1 Cup sour cream 8 oz. can Mushrooms, drained
1/2 Cup water 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder
1 teaspoon chives (chopped) Few dashes of paprika
Salt and pepper to taste
Preheat the oven to 350º F.  Lightly grease a 9 x 13 (or similar size) baking dish.  Place the chicken breasts in the dish in a single layer, salt and pepper lightly.  In a medium size bowl combine the soups, sour cream, onion powder, mushrooms, chives and water.  Pour this mixture evenly over the chicken and lightly sprinkle paprika over the top.  Bake on the middle rack, uncovered for approximately 1 hour, until the chicken is cooked thoroughly and the internal temperature reaches 170º F.  Cooking time will vary depending on the size of the chicken breasts.  Checking the internal temperature is the best way to assure the chicken is ready.  When done, serve with your favorite vegetables and a side of rice or noodles.  Use the creamy sauce to top the rice or noodles.

Community Improvements
Besides converting the pool area into a new amenity, we are continuing to replace driveways around the community.  As we do, we are repairing and even building new sidewalks!  A new bike rack has also been installed at the office, since everyone catches the bus here now.  If your kids leave their bikes though, be sure they secure them!  We are not responsible if they leave them unsecured and something happens to them!
