Community Improvements
As we go through the process of individual home inspections each year, it seems appropriate that we also let you know the improvements that are being made in Johanna Woods. We hope that you, as homeowners, realize that as hard as you work to maintain your homes, we are working to continually improve the community where you live. Here are some of the things we have done in the last year, or are in the process of doing:
-Community pool filter replacement
-Community entry sign refurbishment
-New community sign at the office
-Sidewalk replacement/repair
-Driveway replacement/repair
-Traffic island improvements
There are other things planned that will be in progress soon and other things that are routinely done and too numerous to mention. Our community is over 20 years old now, so we are continually looking around to see what we can do to keep it attractive. We hope you have noticed. And we never want to fail in saying "thank you" to each and every one of our residents who keep their homes in such lovely condition. Johanna Woods is attractive as a whole as a result of the hard work of our residents. Thank you for working with us to keep Johanna Woods beautiful. It takes all of us.
The Scoop on Ozone Alerts
There have been a few residents lately concerned about ozone alerts in connection with mowing their lawns. There are only 4 counties in Oklahoma that monitor ozone. Tulsa is the only county in NE Oklahoma that does and they have four monitoring stations-all of which are in Tulsa county. Since Johanna Woods is in Wagoner county, it would seem that the Tulsa ozone alerts don't really have much bearing on what we do as far as lawn care, or when we do it. We hope this information is helpful.
Back to School Cook's Corner
With the kids back in school, everyone is busier again. Hopefully this quick supper recipe will fit into those new schedules and help take some of the pressure off the resident cook! We hope you will find it quick, convenient and tasty!
Chili Dog Casserole
Ingredients:
8 Hot dog buns
8 Hot dogs
1 15 oz. can chili
1/4 chopped onion
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
Cooking Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º F. Lightly grease a 9 x 13 inch baking dish. Tear up the hot dog buns and arrange the pieces in the bottom of the baking dish evenly. Slice the hot dogs into bite size pieces and layer them over the buns. Pour the chili over the hot dogs and sprinkle with the chopped onion. Then spread some mustard over the chili and onion. Top this with cheese and bake for 30 minutes. This is like eating chili dogs with a fork and is a little neater for younger ones. Yield: 6-8 servings
Going to the Dogs?
We have had some pet problems lately in Johanna Woods, so it seemed like a good time to re-visit our rules with regard to dogs. We have not allowed outside pets in Johanna Woods for many years now. There are just too many problems and disturbances that can occur when pets are outside and their owners are away. No one wants to listen to a barking dog for hours on end, so it's just better to keep them inside. We also have breed and size restrictions for dogs. If you are not sure what the rules are, you need to find out before you bring that cute Great Dane puppy home for the kids! If you have any questions about what kind of dog is, or is not acceptable, give us a call.
The Labor Day Celebration
Ever wonder how some of the holidays and celebrations that we observe in America came to be? Well, if you were sleeping during that part of your History class or just don't have the kind of memory that will make you rich on Jeopardy or Who Wants to be a Millionaire, this article is for you! Labor Day is a holiday to honor working people, the people that make America "work" by – going to work every day. The first informal Labor Day event was a march down the streets of New York in 1872 and was organized to draw attention to the poor and often dangerous working conditions of that time. Later, in 1894, President Grover Cleveland established the first Monday in September as a national holiday honoring America's workers. And there you have it, that's how it all got started! If you are a hard working American this is your day! Enjoy it–but then get back to work on Tuesday!

For Johanna Woods Only
Fall is arriving, school has started and the community pool will be closing on September 6th, after the Labor Day Holiday. Everyone needs to turn in their pool passes after the pool closes and to encourage you to do that very thing...we are going to have a drawing! Here's the plan: Bring your passes back in to the office anytime before the 15th. You can also put them in the rent box if we aren't here when you come by. (If you have several passes it would be very helpful if you would put the them in an envelope before you drop them off!) Each set of returned passes will count as an entry and on the 15th of September we will draw one name from these entries and the winner will receive a $50.00 Wal-Mart gift certificate. Such a Deal! And if you don't have pool passes to return, you can still enter! Just drop off a note with your name and address on it, marked as a drawing entry. Keep those cards, letters-and pool passes coming and keep your fingers crossed! You could be our next winner!
