The Long View
Have you ever heard the phrase, “take the long view”? It means looking at the long term effects of an action, or decision, rather than just focusing on the immediate result. We are a society that has come to expect immediate results in everything we do. Texting, instant messaging, microwaves, computer like phones and tablets have all contributed to this concept of instantaneous results. If you are used to a cell phone with 4G service and you have to use a “slower” one for a while, it seems to take FOREVER. Pretty amazing when you consider that 10 to 15 years ago most of us didn’t even have computers or cell phones. Not any more! Yet, in this high tech, immediate age, there is still the need to “take the long view” in the things we do. In the next few newsletters, we will be focusing on some of the “long view” decisions that have been made by Johanna Woods for the benefit of the community and our residents. We hope you will read these articles and that they will be helpful to you in understanding the management decisions that are made in Johanna Woods. We will be looking at some specific areas and will also be looking at you, the residents who have helped make Johanna Woods a successful community for so many years.
Johanna Woods Pool Opens May 24th
The pool opens for the summer at 5:00 pm on May 24th. Pool passes can be picked up beginning Saturday, May 18th. The office will stay open until 8:00 pm Monday and Tuesday night the 20th and 21st, so passes can be obtained. After that time, passes will be available only during office hours. Pool monitors CAN NOT issue pool passes, so make note of these dates. No one will be admitted to the pool area without a current pool pass, whether they are swimming or not. There is plenty of time for everyone to get signed up before the pool opens, so don’t wait until the last minute! We will ask you to return the passes at the end of the year. A fee of $1.00 per pass will be charged for all passes not returned in good, re-useable condition within 60 days of the date that the pool closes for the season.

MORE NEWS
New Neighbors are everywhere! On just about every street in the community, there have been houses sold, or houses moved in over the last couple of months. Please extend a warm Johanna Woods welcome to all these new folks!
Interested In A Community Yard Sale?
If you are, please call the office and let us know. We will see what the turnout looks like and will then try and schedule accordingly. We need good participation to make a community event successful!
Community Improvements Continue
How about that new curb appeal at the community office! WOW! What a difference the new look makes. We are grateful for the opportunity we had to repair the problems at the office and make it beautiful all at the same time. While we ask you to keep up with your home maintenance needs, we are working hard to keep the community infrastructure updated and in good repair. We want the entire community to be an attractive place for all of us to call home!
Summer Cook’s Corner
Pineapple Grilled Pork Chops
Ingredients:
1 (8 ounce) can pineapple rings, juice drained and reserved
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
4 pork chops
1 pinch ground black pepper
Directions: Combine the pineapple juice, brown sugar, soy sauce and garlic powder in a large zipper bag, mixing well, so sugar is dissolved. Place pork chops in the bag, squeeze air out, seal the bag and refrigerate overnight. Reserve the pineapple rings. When ready to cook, preheat the grill for medium heat and lightly oil the grate. Remove the chops from the marinade and grill until browned and no longer pink inside—5 to 8 minutes per side. Brush the chops several times with marinade while cooking, then discard excess marinade. While grilling place 4 pineapple rings on the grill and let cook until hot and until they show grill marks. Serve the chops topped with a grilled pineapple ring. Let the grilling season begin!
Does Your Home Need to Be Power Washed?
Have you ever noticed how much brighter the world looks after a good rain? Just like taking your car through a car wash, everything looks better after a good washing. Our homes are no different. Dust and dirt accumulate on siding and our decks start to look dull because they need a good cleaning. This can be a fairly common maintenance issue, especially for homes with vinyl siding. If you have noticed dirt and grime on your home and need to get it cleaned off, please call the office and we might be able to put you in touch with someone who can help!
Staying Safe in a Wi-Fi World!
Seems like everyone is connected to the internet today either with a phone or tablet. There are advantages to this ready accessibility, but there are also some very real risks. Here are some tips for keeping your personal information safe in public Wi-Fi settings:
- Don’t make online purchases or access back accounts when connected to public Wi-Fi.
- Double check the network name before logging on. Identity thieves can set up fake hotspots with legitimate sounding names.
- Turn auto-connect off so you control when and where you are logged in.
- Look for a lock. A padlock in the address bar of the web browser means information is encrypted. This does not guarantee you are 100% safe, so be careful out there!
Spring Inspections
After a cold, wet and BUSY spring, inspections are finally underway in the Community. It is difficult to explain the value of these annual inspections to us all, but if you want to see the difference they make first hand, just visit any other mobile home community within 50 miles of us. A lack of comprehensive rules, consistent oversight and living standards that are clearly spelled out will result in a decent mobile home community becoming a “trailer park” quicker than you might imagine. Let’s all get our home maintenance chores knocked out early this year. Might be another hot one, only the Good Lord knows!
