Johanna Woods Salutes...???
Have you ever seen the news shows where the journalist travels
around the country on the whim of a dart thrown into a map and then
selects someone to interview by picking a name out of a phone book?
The idea behind the series is that everyone-no matter who they are
or where they live-has a story.
Johanna Woods is a wonderful community made up of diverse and interesting
folks. And while everyone may not have a big or fascinating story
we are all unique. Occasionally the facts get out about some of our
residents and it seems a shame not to let the whole community in
on the special things some of our residents do or have done.
That's
the reason for this new feature. To share some of these wonderful
stories with everyone. We may not have one every month, but we will
once in a while. And without further introduction we are going to
salute a neighbor who wishes to remain anonymous; but what she does
is so vitally important it's worth a mention. One of our neighbors
is a foster mom. She takes in children who need a temporary home
and someone to love them-for a while-until they are placed with a
permanent family to love them for a lifetime. The last little one
that came into her home was just 2 days old. And she already had
a 5-month old that she was caring for and loving at the time. The
little baby didn't stay long. Just passed through on the way to what
we all hope will be a permanent, loving and stable family life.
Caring for children is a big job. It's a tough, demanding, and very
rewarding job. Most of us don't think much about it. But our neighbor
gives her heart, time and resources away knowing that one day her
heart will ache when the little one she has invested herself in goes
away. It's a tremendous and painful thing to do for those who cannot
care for themselvles. Thanks neighbor...we salute you!
Record
Temperatures and Heat Indexes-Again!
It is definitely summer in Oklahoma! And once again, we have
adjusted the work hours for our maintenance crew so they can avoid
working outside during the hottest part of the day. Please bear
with us if you hear a weed-eater or lawnmower at 7:00 am. This
adjustment is absolutely necessary to avoid the danger of overexposure.
And if you have to be out in the heat, be sure you drink plenty
of water, take breaks fairly often and don't forget the sun screen!
For Johanna Woods Only
Has it been a while since you had your air conditioner serviced?
If so, you could be spending more each month to stay cool than you
need to. One of our neighbors, Jason Booher, operates Air Management
Company and can save you some money. Just call 688-2665 and you can
save $15.00 off the regular price of $60.00 for an a/c check up.
Don't wait until it breaks down, check it out today!
Cable Update...
We have had several calls lately about cable service being out
at different times through the day. Cox cable is in the process of
re-building the cable system in our area and this is why there are
outages. However, if your cable goes off and is NOT back on by 5:00
pm you may have a problem that requires a service call. If so, call
665-0200. Once the re-build is complete we should have better reception,
more channels and high speed internet access, but it will be a few
months before they are done!
